ALBERT MEWS

ALBERT MEWS, CHINGFORD, NORTH LONDON

This set of five identical mews houses on a tightly constrained urban back-land site in north London have been designed to bring lightness and joy to a rather dour and soulless setting. The houses themselves are arranged to maximise efficiency and light, while maintaining privacy. They have also been designed to be good neighbours to surrounding houses, with care having been taken to avoid any sense of overbearing, enclosure or overlooking.  The distinctive silhouette encourages views across and through the proposed site.

Each house has a bench next to its front door, where neighbourly conversations might take place under cover; bedrooms are at ground floor level and kitchen and living spaces are at first floor level, along with a generous screened terrace.

Plans have been submitted to London Borough of Waltham Forest.
