SCALABRINI

SCALABRINI, KENNINGTON, SOUTH LONDON

This tightly constrained urban site in Kennington, owned by The Scalabrini Fathers, an Italian order of Catholic priests, is currently straining to provide the hostel and community uses so valued by the communities they serve. We have been asked to find ways to adapt and extend the statutorily listed Georgian terrace that forms the bulk of the site to provide for these uses, as well as clergy accommodation - all vital to safeguard the order’s mission over the coming years. Our initial proposal to replace the run-down and compromised terrace with a crisp contemporary replacement has, with consultation, given way to a conservation-led approach where the existing buildings will be sensitively restored and extended.

Consent was granted in January 2021 by the London Borough of Lambeth. Constructon is expected to commence in summer 2023.
