WEST END LANE

WEST END LANE

WEST END LANE, PINNER NORTH LONDON

This large plot on a residential street in Pinner is currently occupied by a comparatively small, inter-war period detached house of no particular architectural merit. Our client has identified an opportunity to make better use of the site. We have developed plans for an apartment building that takes inspiration from the larger single-family Arts and Crafts houses nearby and which are, to some extent, typical of the leafier outer London boroughs. Although the swooping roofs, pronounced overhangs and carefully balanced asymmetry directly allude to the freedom of later nineteenth century bourgeois architecture, the details are refined and simplified, giving the form a contemporary crispness of outline. The traditional materials, like brick and clay roof tiles will weather, bedding the building into its environment. The nine dwellings all have private external amenity space, as well as the use of a generous garden to the rear, secluded by mature trees and planting.

The project has been consented by the London Borough of Harrow.
